ABOUT ME

ABOUT BEN

The idea of teaching yoga never once crossed my mind before the day I decided I was going to do it. Sometimes you get pushed toward something and it just feels right.

I spent most of my 20s in Vermont- bartending, teaching snowboarding in the winter, tennis in the summer, traveling during the slow seasons- and I loved that life, but the more I traveled the more I could feel it running its course. I knew I needed something different and something I could grow into long-term.

At the end of 2019 I was in Costa Rica doing work exchanges. I’d pick a country, find a hostel, and trade whatever jobs they needed for a place to stay. There was a yoga center in town and I started going. I always walked out feeling a little clearer/calmer and that was enough to keep me going back. After one class I left thinking 100% I was going to teach yoga at some point- I never expected that, but it felt right.

A few months later came 2020, maybe the most challenging year of my life. And that had nothing to do with Covid. My nervous system was shot, my mental health fell apart, and issues I had treated in unhealthy and unsustainable ways for years resurfaced in nasty ways. I was barely sleeping- maybe an hour a night- and when I did “sleep” I’d wake up shaking, drenched, heart racing, trying to figure out how to get through another day. No appetite, lost a lot of weight, no motivation to do anything. My body was tense nonstop and my thoughts were loud in a way that made it impossible to function normally.

In the middle of all that, yoga became the only thing that gave me any relief. I was practicing 2-3 times a day- not striving for some big transformation- but because those hours were literally the only times my mind slowed down and my body wasn’t in full panic/survival mode.

Little by little that consistency pulled me out of the hole I was in. Not in a dramatic or fast way- just slowly and steadily enough that I could feel myself stabilizing again.

In 2021 I went back to that yoga center in Costa Rica and did my training followed by a bunch of others, and the rest is history.

Now, I’m passionate about sharing the transformative power of yoga with others. I teach a variety of styles—from invigorating vinyasa to calming yin and restorative myofascial release—to help students find balance, peace, and confidence.
